Protecting Our Theatre Heritage

Set up after a fifty year campaign, London’s Theatre Museum holds one of the world’s finest collections of material on the performing arts. It is administered as a department of the Victoria and Albert Museum, which for reasons of economy wanted to close it as an independent attraction and to relocate it to a few of its own galleries.

You can write to your MP by going to the website www.writetothem.com. You can then make any point you wish, but the message we would like you to paste in is:

I object strongly to the Victoria and Albert Museum’s bid to close the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden, which appears to be in contravention of the Heritage Act 1983, and would ask you to refer the matter to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport for their urgent consideration.

The V&A’s hasty decision means that London will be without its centre for exhibition, education and entertainment related to our theatre heritage for at least two to three years, probably much longer.
